Recommended for schools and hobbyists, the AM3011 digital microscope offers 10x-50x, 230x variable magnification with 0.3MP (640x480 pixel) color resolution. The AM3011 is a step up from the AM2011 due to better illumination. It includes 8 bright white LED lights with On/Off switch. Simply position the microscope at the required distance and focus by using the scroll bar on the side of the microscope housing. Then take stills, live video or even time lapse video, all of which can be neatly stored in a variety of popular formats (JPEG, BMP, AVI among others) in the included file management system. Powered by USB 2.0, the microscope is housed in a tough ABS plastic shell and is both PC/Mac compatible (through Windows 7 and OSX 10.5 or later). Dino-Lite includes software for both PC (DinoCapture 2.0) and Mac (DinoXcope) computers. PC software is compatible through WIndows 7 and Mac through OSX 10.5 and later. We have found the software to be robust and reliable with some great features as follows: image capture, storage and email, live and time lapse video, annotation, geotagging, full screen capability, auto and manual exposure control, picture within picture zoom (magnifier) and more. Above all the color resolution is excellent due to fixed white-balance calibration which is set at the factory using a jeweler's color balance.
